Damascus-based Hamas arch-terrorist and politburo head Khaled Mashaal described last week’s destruction of the Egypt-Gaza border fence at Rafiah by his operatives as “a positive step” that should be followed up in similar ways.
“It is very important to Hamas to maintain security, to remove the blockade and not to harm the interests of the Egyptians,” he told the London-based newspaper, A-Sharq Al-Awsat in an interviewed published Sunday.
Egyptian security officers have been unable to re-take control of the Rafiah crossing and adjacent border; clashes with Hamas terrorists Saturday left a number of Egyptian forces wounded.
