Israelis in Sinai at High Risk of Abduction, NSC Warns

Israelis in the Sinai desert are at high risk following the breach of the Gaza-Egypt border, the intelligence chief of the National Security Council's Antiterror Unit warned Friday.

The officer, Brig.-Gen. (res.) Elkana Harnof, said there is a "serious and palpable" threat to Israelis in Sinai, especially as regards their abduction and transfer to Gaza. He said "it can be easily understood why this threat becomes more serious as a result of the breach of the border fence."

It is much easier today to move Israelis into Gaza from Sinai, Harnof explained.
