Russia has pledged 85 tons of fuel for Iran's nuclear plant in Bushehr, on Iran's southern coast. The plant – Iran's first nuclear reactor, will begin operating in the summer of 2008, according to Iranian officials, and will initially be capable of producing 500 megawatts of electricity. Iran hopes to have the nuclear capacity to create 20,000 megawatts of electricity within 20 years.
Israel believes Iran is covertly developing nuclear weapons, though Tehran says its nuclear program is to create energy for civilian use.
