IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz announced he is stepping down from his position following widespread criticism on his handling of the war against Hizbullah in Lebanon. The announcement came before the government-appointed Winograd Commission submitted its report on the government's and military establishment's part in the war. Lt. Gen. Halutz stated, "It is the nature of people not to be overjoyed serving in a system that is unappreciated and unprotected by those it represents."

--The popular Google Earth map displays the Old City of Jerusalem as part of Palestinian Authority (PA) area. The area, including the Temple Mount, was reunited with the rest of the capital in the Six-Day War in 1967 and officially is a part of Jerusalem. The Google Earth satellite map also shows the Gaza region as "Israeli-occupied" although the government demolished Jewish communities there and turned over the land to the PA.
