Olmert: 'Bush Said 2 States, Not 3 for 2 Peoples'

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told cabinet ministers at the weekly Sunday morning meeting that U.S. President George W. Bush assured Israel that the Roadmap plan would have to be implemented in full before any agreements are signed, "including all of its commitments regarding the security of the State of Israel both in the Gaza Strip and Judea and Samaria." According to Olmert, "[Bush] said we are discussing the establishment of two states for two peoples and not three states for two peoples. The emphasis on this is very important."

The Roadmap plan doesn't call for negotiation on establishment of a PA state until terrorism no longer emanates from PA territories. If and when terrorism ceases, negotiations would begin on establishment of a state comprised of PA territory in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.  At present, Gaza is no longer under the control of the PA government, but is independently run by the Hamas terrorist organization, which routed PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah forces in June 2007. Hamas has repeatedly affirmed the intent of its members to destroy Israel, and that in the meantime they do not recognize the right of Israel to exist.
