MK Ahmed Tibi (Ra’am Ta’al) expressed fury on Wednesday after hearing that MDA paramedics were told to take special precautions when transferring patients from Palestinian Authority hospitals. The paramedics were told to wear masks when transferring patients from hospitals in Judea, Samaria, or Gaza, and to disinfect the ambulance afterwards.
Tibi called the safety measures “a questionable and ugly decision... treating all Palestinians as a risk group is marred by Israeli racism.” Tibi said he would ask the Health Ministry to revoke the measure. MK Dov Khenin (Hadash) accused MDA of racism as well.
Officials explained that the measure was meant to prevent the transfer of antibiotic-resistant bacteria between PA hospitals and Israeli hospitals.
