MK Benny Elon (NU/NRP) called for Minister of Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman, the head of Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel Our Home), to quit the government.  The voting public “will see if Lieberman is true to his word,” Elon said on Tuesday evening.

Lieberman recently said that his party would withdraw from the ruling coalition if Prime Minister Ehud Olmert agreed to negotiate with the Palestinian Authority on “core issues” such as the status of Jerusalem and the borders of a PA state.  Olmert met with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday and agreed to establish a committee to begin negotiating core issues.
