The Interior Ministry granted 100 work permits to Africans who fled Eritrea and entered Israel illegally Monday.
Interior Minister Meir Sheetrit plans on granting more than 1,000 such work permits. Israel has refrained from returning them to Eritrea as they would be imprisoned or killed as defectors.
The permits are good for six months.
