Finance Ministry officials announced Monday night that they would accept a proposal by National Labor Court head Justice Steve Adler aimed at ending the ongoing senior academic staff strike. The proposal calls for an immediate sum to be paid to the striking lecturers as compensation for erosion in their salaries, and for the lecturers and the Finance Ministry to agree to arbitration in order to figure out the true effect of erosion on lecturers’ salaries over the past decade.
Representatives of the senior academic staff have not yet announced whether or not they accept the proposal. If they choose to continue to strike, the government and university presidents will ask the National Labor Court to issue back-to-work orders.
