The Pikuach Nefesh rabbinical organization has dispatched a letter to US President George W. Bush calling upon the American leader to cancel his scheduled visit to Israel.

“Even if you do not intend it,” the rabbis wrote, “the Israeli media and other special interests are interpreting your visit as putting pressure on the government of Israel to fulfill its declarations made at Annapolis and a push to implement the second stage of the Disengagement. Such an outcome will cost the lives of hundreds of Jews.”

The organization is made up of more than 350 rabbis across Israel, in the Chief Rabbinate, local rabbinical councils and heads of communities and neighborhoods.
