A law that required employers to put employees provided by temporary employment agencies on the payroll after nine months of service will go into effect on Tuesday. The law was approved in 2000 as part of the Economic Arrangements Law.
Some lawmakers expressed concern that employers would circumvent the new law by firing temporary employees after nine months, or by using service providers, which are exempt from the law. Histadrut head Ofer Eini has proposed that service providers be held to the same standards as temporary employment agencies. In addition, Eini has proposed legislation that would require such agencies to be licensed, and that would retract licensing from agencies that did not obey employment laws.
