MK Aryeh Eldad (NU/NRP) said Monday that Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria and their supporters should launch a civil disobedience campaign. The campaign would be a response to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s plan to control the approval of all Jewish building projects in Judea and Samaria.
Officials have given conflicting reports of Olmert’s plans for Jewish building, with some saying that construction will end completely and others saying construction will continue within built-up areas of existing “settlement blocks.” Contractors complained Monday that they were not allowed to continue building even in large cities such as Ariel and Maaleh Adumim that Israeli prime ministers have traditionally promised to keep in a peace deal with the Palestinian Authority.
