At the start of the weekly Sunday cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert praised the two off-duty IDF soldiers who were murdered by Palestinian Authority terrorists Friday during a hike with a friend near Telem Spring, saying they "fought bravely for their lives even when caught by total surprise." Although shot, both returned fire, killing one terrorist and critically injuring a second, who later died of his wounds.

Olmert declared that Israel would not make any further changes in security measures until the Palestinian Authority carries out "the necessary measures with the necessary strength in order to act against the terrorist organizations."  The Prime Minister said Israel would not compromise on the issue.
