Olmert: I Won't Resign After Winograd Report

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Wednesday that he has no intention of resigning following the final Winograd Commission report on the failures of the Second Lebanon War.

Olmert told members of the Meretz faction: "I will say my opinion on the report at the time and place I see fit."

Pundits explained that Olmert's meeting with Meretz was intended to boost the chances of MK Chaim Oron to become the party's new chairman in upcoming internal elections. Olmert and Oron are said to get along well, and there have been rumors of a deal in which Meretz will join the government if Yisrael Beiteinu leaves it.
