Beating out "All Natural" and "No Additives or Preservatives," "Kosher" was the most frequently touted label on products introduced in the US in 2007, according to Mintel's Global New Products Database, which monitors innovations in consumer products around the world.
This year, 3,984 new kosher food products and 728 kosher beverages were introduced to the market.
According to experts on kosher food, the kosher marketplace has increased by 10-15 percent over the last 15-20 years, with Americans spending $10.5 billion on kosher products annually. A 2005 study conducted by Mintel showed that 55 percent of respondents thought kosher foods were healthier and safer than non-kosher, 38 percent of respondents were vegetarian, and 16 percent ate halal.
