Police officer Mordechai Peretz has been indicted for allegedly beating a suspect in handcuffs and wounding him.  Peretz allegedly beat Alex Ben-Zikri, a resident of Kiryat Arba, after arresting him in Jerusalem following an altercation.  The beating damaged Ben-Zikri’s eardrum and caused him injuries on his face, arms, and legs.

Years ago, Ben-Zikri was seriously wounded in a terrorist shooting attack that left him with a permanent handicap.  “The beating and violence from a police officer who is part of my people, wearing the uniform of my country, hurt more than the terrorist’s bullets,” he said after hearing of the indictment. “I will not give up, and this indictment is only the beginning.”
