Lecturers, Bar-On Meet in Jerusalem

(IsraelNN.com) Finance Minister Ronnie Bar-On met with representatives of the senior academic staff and university heads in Jerusalem on Saturday night.  The group is trying to reach a solution to an ongoing lecturers' strike that has lasted for most of the semester.  Lecturers are demanding a pay raise to compensate for what they say is significant erosion in their wages over the past decade.

University heads have warned that if the strike does not end this week, the semester and even the entire academic year could be cancelled.  Lecturers' representative Tzvi HaCohen said Saturday that he hopes "that the Finance Ministry will come down to earth and prevent the national disaster that would take place if the academic year is cancelled."
