The IAF's anti-aircraft array conducted a successful test of an improved Patriot anti-aircraft missile dubbed Yahalom on Tuesday. The test was conducted in southern Israel and involved the firing of a missile at a mock jet plane. The test was held in preparation for the assimilation of a new radar system which will improve the Patriots' range and accuracy.
Anti-Aircraft Forces Commander Brig.-Gen. Danny Milo said the successful test meant that Israel's defensive abilities vis-à-vis the "relevant threats" have improved.
According to press reports, Israel is slated to receive a PAC-3 Patriot system from the US. The PAC-3 has 16 launch pods, as opposed to the four-pod batteries Israel currently owns.
