(IsraelNN.com) Testimony by Attorney General Menachem Mazuz before the Winograd Commission, made public Tuesday following the lifting of a gag order, praised the way the IDF carried out its responsibilities in the 2006 Second Lebanon War.

Mazuz told the commission, tasked with investigating the government's performance during the war, that the IDF had carried out "the most legal war in the history of the State of Israel and perhaps ever." During the war, he said, the Military Prosecutor supervised all military decisions and gave legal opinions before targets were attacked, adding that he believes the army's activities during the war were justified.

"The more importance a structure has militarily, the more it can justify a larger attack, including on civilians," he said. The IDF was criticized by world leaders for attacking perceived civilian targets, despite the fact that the enemy was hiding and hoarding weapons and other military supplies among them.
