Rabbi Eric Yoffe, the head of the Union for Reform Judaism, called on Jews affiliated with the Reform movement at the movement's biennial convention Saturday to become more Shabbat observant, saying that keeping the day of rest is a response to a culture which blurs the lines between work and leisure.
He told the 6,000 delegates that the maintenance of Jewish communities is important for the mentoring of Jewish youth. Yoffe also urged more Israel education in advance of Israel's 60th anniversary.
