Massive International Fundraiser for PLO State Today

Ninety international delegates including participants from almost 70 countries will descend on Paris Monday with the goal of raising money for the PLO. During the massive one-day Conference of Donors for a Palestinian State, countries around the world will attempt to meet PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas' target of $5.6 billion dollars. Much of the money will pay for the maintenance of the PLO for the next 3 years, with the rest going to various projects, 30 to 40 percent of which will take place in Gaza.

The fundraiser will be attended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, as well as representatives from the EU's 27 members, the Group of Eight, Arab countries of the Middle East, Norway, Brazil, China, and India.  The Arab League, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and European and Arab financial groups will also participate.

Talks are currently underway between Israel and the PLO, with the close oversight of the United States, regarding the possible creation of a PLO state by next year.
