An 18-year-old detainee known to the media as “B” says that police have strip-searched, humiliated, and hit her over the past several days due to her refusal to recognize the authority of the secular court system. The young woman was arrested along with a group of other women when, according to soldiers, she attacked Arab farmers who entered her town under IDF protection. The “Honenu” group is helping the young woman, and has threatened to sue the police if the humiliating and violent treatment continues.
The other young women arrested with “B” have been released, but “B” has not allowed police to take her picture or her fingerprints, arguing that she respects only Torah law. “This whole production has no authority,” she told reporters. “The Hellenists also had laws, and their laws were against the Torah. Today as well, we have a court that goes against the Torah.”
“B” has refused to recognize the secular court system in the past as well, and spent several weeks in jail after she was arrested during protests against the 2005 “Disengagement.” A judge has ruled that she will be kept in jail until the end of proceedings against her. Prison Services officials denied the charges of violence.
