Students of the Yavneh high school yeshiva in Haifa witnessed the death of their principal, Shmuel Shteinmetz, Friday morning. Shteinmetz collapsed and died during gym class, in the school gymnasium.
One of his students, who volunteers with Magen David Adom, gave him initial treatment until MDA paramedics arrived. One of the paramedics, Asher Golan, told Ynet that Shteinmetz was unconscious when they reached him. They carried out prolonged and intensive resuscitation efforts but were unsuccessful.
Golan said the principal had apparently developed cardiac arrhythmia.
