Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Thursday that Israel will not negotiate with Syria at this time.  Syria’s behavior does not allow for peace talks, Livni told representatives from the European Union.

Livni pointed to Syria’s support for terrorist groups, including Hamas and Hizbullah, and its interference in Lebanese politics as proof that now is not the time for talks.  However, she expressed hope that Syria could be coaxed into taking a more “constructive” role, and called on the EU delegates to push Syria away from Iran and towards more moderate Arab countries.
