Defense Minister and Labor party chairman Ehud Barak met close to midnight Monday to heal the breach with Labor secretary-general and Knesset Member Eitan Cabel. The two were joined in Barak's Tel Aviv by Social Welfare Minister Yitzchak Herzog.
Cabel had slammed Barak for his decision last week to fire HQ director Eldad Yaniv. Barak accused Yaniv of attempting to swing power in the party toward Cabel, a close associate of Yaniv's, by changing the party's constitution to strip the secretariat of its executive powers, which would give Cabel and Yaniv control of the party.
