Germany's Olympics Sports Federation has voted unanimously for Munich to announce a bid to host the Winter Olympic Games of 2018, with Germany hoping to stage the event for the first time since the Nazi era in 1936.
Munich hosted the Summer Games in 1972, during which 11 Israeli athletes were murdered in their apartments by the 'Black September' PLO organization. German officials worked in coordination with Israel in an attempt to save the lives of some of the athletes, but committed so many blunders that all 11 athletes were killed.
An Academy Award winning documentary movie, "One Day in September," examined the details of the attack, and addressed suspicions of shady dealings between German officials and the terrorists.
