Nazareth Mayor Ramiz Jaraisy called a meeting on Friday with dozens of academics to call for an Arab university in Nazareth.  Classes would be taught in Arabic, he said, and would provide an alternative for thousands of Arab students who are not accepted to Israeli universities and decide to learn abroad.

Jaraisy said that former Education Minister Yossi Sarid almost approved his plan, but that the plan was later rejected by Sarid’s successor, Limor Livnat.  He expressed hope that current Education Minister Yuli Tamir would accept his proposal and provide government assistance for the school’s establishment.
