Cell phone companies in Israel will compensate property owners up to 80 percent for the loss in real estate value because of nearby antennas, according to a master plan drawn up by the National Council for Planning and Building. Local municipalities will pay the remaining 20 percent.
Property values have dropped up by up to 30 percent because of the proximity of the unsightly antennas, which also are feared to cause radiation. The Council also ruled that companies must publicize the location of new antennas before erecting them. Homeowners previously have complained that they returned from work at the end of day and discovered antennas on nearby roofs.
