According to a joint Ynet and Gesher Institute poll, 83% of Hebrew-speaking Jews in Israel say they would kindle and say the prayers over menorahs nightly over the course of the Chanukah holiday, with only 2% saying they would not celebrate Chanukah at all. Among those describing themselves as secular, 68% will light the candles nightly, as will 91% of self-described religious respondents.
The Jewish victory over Greece is the primary symbolism for 40% of the public, with 35% saying the celebration is about family. Americanization is the new Hellenism, according to 18% of those polled. Justice and democracy systems are symbols of Hellenism to 10%, consumerism to 9%, and obsession with body image to 8%.
