Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann discussed the problem of career criminals on Thursday in a national forum on crime. “There are more than a few crimes where the punishment is not reasonable, for example, in the case of the professional criminal who makes his living from crime, and needs a serious punishment,” he said.
While most of those brought to trial are convicted, Friedmann said, crime remains common. He attributed the seeming paradox to two issues: that minor crimes were dealt with in court, while some people who should have been brought to trial were not. Friedmann called to set standard punishments for certain crimes.
