Hamas demanded Thursday that the United Nations rescind its November 29, 1947 decision to split British Mandatory Palestine between its Jewish and Arab populations. “Palestine is Arab Islamic land, from the river to the sea, including Jerusalem,” the group said. “There is no room in it for the Jews.”
Palestinian Authority negotiator Ahmed Qureia (Abu Ala) recently suggested using the plan to determine borders. The UN did not enforce the plan, leaving Israel to fight the War of Independence against invading Arab forces, losing Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and Gaza for 19 years.
