Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak conducted a secret meeting with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad in connection with the Annapolis conference, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida on Thursday. The newspaper also reported that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert tried to arrange a meeting with Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, but failed.

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni also attempted to meet with her diplomatic counterparts, but only received an agreement from the foreign minister of Jordan.
