More than 30 Arabs, including an Al Jazeera correspondent, were clubbed and tear gassed by Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces in Ramallah and Hevron Tuesday during demonstrations against the Annapolis conference.

In actions similar to the Israeli government's efforts to prevent demonstrations against the expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif, the PA prevented 14 busloads of demonstrators from reaching Ramallah, according to the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency.

"What we saw today was fascist," Maan quoted one reporter.
