(IsraelNN.com) Supreme Court President Dorit Beinish attended a Knesset meeting on the status of women in Israel on Tuesday.  Beinish told those present, “Not only have we not achieved equality in society, but women are still seen as a weak sector.”  The problem must be solved through education and changing societal attitudes, she said, and not only through legislation and punishment.

MK Zahava Gal-On (Meretz) criticized the court system for decisions regarding charges against former President Moshe Katzav and former Justice Minister Chaim Ramon.  The legal system failed to enforce the law, she said, and caused many women to fear filing a complaint with police.  Beinish asked Gal-On not to speak about specific cases, especially those that are still being discussed in court.
