Anne Frank's Tree to Survive

The 150-year-old chestnut tree that comforted Anne Frank as she hid from the Nazis during World War II will not be chopped down after all.

Dutch Justice J. Bade ruled in favor of conservationists who petitioned the court to prevent the tree from being chopped down by the city of Amsterdam.

City officials wanted to remove the tree due to a fungal disease it was believed would send it crashing to the ground, endangering residents.
