No Building Permits Even in ‘Settlement Blocs’

(IsraelNN.com) According to the Jerusalem Post, Defense Minister Ehud Barak has rejected all requests for building permits in Judea and Samaria over the past five months, even requests to build in “settlement blocs” such as Ariel and Maaleh Adumim that Israeli politicians have said that Israel would keep in any future agreements with the Palestinian Authority.  The number of permits approved went down by 26 percent from 2005 to 2006, and then from 83 percent between 2006 and the beginning of 2007.  Defense Ministry spokesmen did not confirm the report.

The cabinet is to discuss construction in Judea and Samaria this week.  MKs from coalition parties Kadima and Yisrael Beiteinu have criticized the lack of construction permits, saying that building should continue in areas that will remain under Israeli control.
