Lebanese security officials said Saturday that terrorists from the rival Fatah and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) groups had clashed on Friday in a camp near Beirut that houses descendants of Arabs who fled Israel during the War of Independence. Three people were wounded in a shootout in the Bourj el-Barajneh camp.
A PFLP-GC leader in the camp said the gunfight had broken out due to a clan rivalry and not a political dispute. However, Fatah and PFLP-GC leaders elsewhere described the fight as a clash that had become political.
