Poll: 90% Choose Traditional Bar Mitzvah

According to a recent survey conducted by the Mutagim Institute for Yediot Acharonot, 90 percent of Israel’s Hebrew-speaking Jewish population plans to celebrate their children’s bar and bat mitzvahs with a traditional ceremony.  100 percent of religious Israelis and 79 percent of the secular population said their sons would celebrate their thirteenth birthday by putting on tefillin (phylacteries) and reading from the Torah.

65 percent of those surveyed said they would hold a bar mitzvah ceremony in a traditional synagogue.  26 percent said they would prefer to hold it at the Kotel (Western Wall).
