Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Stanley Fischer called on the business establishment to employ more Arabs in order to prevent the Arab sector from being caught up in the poverty situation. He told the Jewish-Arab Business Conference, "Israeli society cannot succeed, certainly not in the long run, if it creates large differentials, with a big sector of the population existing at a very low standard of living."
He pointed out that the Bank of Israel now is making efforts to employ Arabs as economists, accountants and lawyers.
