A Lebanese newspaper published a report Thursday claiming the international al Qaeda terrorist organization tried to assassinate Hizbullah chief terrorist Hassan Nasrallah last summer.

The Arabic language As-Safir reported that members of several al Qaeda cells captured by Lebanese security forces also admitted to firing Katyusha rockets at Israel several times and conspiring to attack UNIFIL soldiers.

Security officers found three al Qaeda cells operating in the southern part of the country as well as 150 pounds of cyanide and other chemicals. Hundreds of pounds of explosives had already been shipped back to Iraq by the time security forces caught the suspects.
