New PA Demand Freeing Barghouti as 'Good Will' Measure

A Palestinian Authority (PA) minister has demanded that Israel free jailed arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti, who is serving five consecutive life sentences in prison. Ashraf al-Ajrami, minister for prisoners, added the demand to a lengthening list of moves that the PA says will help bolster the standing of its chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

"The issue of releasing Barghouti is becoming more essential after overt voices in the Israeli leadership to release him have recently mounted," al-Ajrami said. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has confirmed that his government is considering setting free another 400 terrorists from behind bars before the planned Annapolis, Maryland conference.
