Authorities in Amsterdam have announced that the city will cut down a horse-chestnut tree that was featured in the diary of young Holocaust victim Anne Frank. The tree was one of the few things visible from the small area in which Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis, and diary entries show that it gave her comfort.
City officials and activists have made several efforts to save the tree, which is thought to be over 150 years old. However, experts warn that the tree is diseased and poses a danger, and officials said they now have no choice but to remove it.
