Outgoing State Attorney Eran Shendar warned in an interview Sunday there are some high-placed officials who are behaving as if they are above the law, telling Channel 1 TV, "There is a link between organized crime and leading Israeli officials."

In the interview, Shendar also said the multiple investigations against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert are now a matter of "public discourse" and that the prime minister should consider suspending himself.

He added that he believes Attorney General Menachem Mazuz should not excuse himself from the sexual crimes and corruption case against former President Moshe Katzav. A decision on whether to allow a plea bargain that was reached in the case is under consideration by the High Court of Justice.
