Likud head Binyamin Netanyahu and other politicians are planning to launch a group called Coalition for Jerusalem that will fight any plans to divide control of Jerusalem between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Likud supporters are planning a rally to take place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the City of David in Jerusalem in support of the new group.
Vice Premier Chaim Ramon, who is close to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, recently floated a plan that would cede control over much of Jerusalem, including holy sites. PA negotiators have demanded control over all neighborhoods of Jerusalem that were under Jordanian control between 1948 and 1967, including the Old City and the Temple Mount.
