The annual controversy in American cities over the legality of placing Hanukah menorahs in public places is in high gear, with the town of Kenosha, Wisconsin deciding to change its regulations and allow the Chabad Lubavitch movement to place an eight-foot tall menorah in a public park. The eight-day holiday begins the evening of December 4 and ends on December 12.
The Kenosha News reported that permission originally was denied because of a law forbidding religious symbols in a city park. A local rabbi pointed out that the menorah is "a symbol that’s been placed in close to 1,000 locations in the United States."
