Govt. Expected to Cancel 5-Agurot Coin

(IsraelNN.com) The government is expected to cancel the five-agurot coin during its weekly meeting on Sunday.  The cancellation must then receive approval from the Knesset’s Finance Committee, after which Bank of Israel President Stanley Fischer can issue an order canceling the coin.

If the coin is cancelled, it will be phased out over the course of one year.  Canceling the coin would save the country approximately 1.7 million shekels per year.
