    Israel Developed Economically, Less Environmentally

Israel may be considered a developed nation in terms of its economic status, but it has much farther to go in the realm of environmental protection, according to the "green" watchdog organization, Life and Environment.

The group charged, in a report being presented to the Knesset Tuesday by the Monitoring Committee for Environmental Justice, that although Israel is expected to shortly become a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) it has yet to reach the same level in the "green" world.

The report, which focused on urban issues in this, its third year, said economic difficulties prevent water supplies from reaching large urban areas in the country. It also described conditions in the unrecognized Bedouin villages which lack basic infrastructure and government services like garbage collection.
