Commander Nisim Edri, the Border Police officer in charge of the Jerusalem Perimeter ("Otef Yerushalaim"), told the Deputy Mayor of the Binyamin Council, Avi Roeh, that a third lane will soon open for traffic at the Hizme checkpoint in northern Jerusalem.
Roeh said that he told Edri there was no justification for the long lines of cars waiting to get into Jerusalem and out of it at Hizme. He said the situation at the checkpoint was unbearable.
Edri promised that a third lane would open at the checkpoint this week, and that this would relieve the pressure at the crossing that separates Jerusalem from Samaria. The road humps at the spot may also be modified or replaced.
