(IsraelNN.com) Police Supt. Guy Reif will receive only NIS 7,000 as compensation from Munaam Abu Salah, an Arab who attacked him and broke his nose in the course of his testimony before the Orr Commission. Judge Jenny Tannous of the Akko Magistrates' Court ruled that Reif would receive less than one percent of the sum he had demanded from Abu Salah. The Arab judge also decided to reject Reif's lawsuits against the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Public Security.

Reif had been testifying, on March 23, 2003, before the commission which was established to investigate the behavior of police in quelling the October 2000 uprising by Israeli Arabs, when he was attacked. Abu Salah, the father of an Arab who was shot dead in the riots, had been brought to sit in the audience by MK Ahmed Tibi. He suddenly got up and punched Reif in the face, breaking his nose.

Abu Salah was tried in a criminal court and received a sentence of two months' public service and six months' suspended sentence for the attack. Reif's promising career in the police ended in the aftermath of the October 2000 riots.
