Minister Yitzchak Cohen is calling for the dismissal of IDF Chief of Human Resources Major-General Elazar Stern because of Stern's comment regarding the Second Lebanon War, "The failure of the war is the result of our oversensitivity to the death of [IDF] soldiers." Cohen, a bereaved parent, claims that "the IDF has been proud of its sensitivity to soldiers all these years and all of a sudden an officer, who apparently has a stone for a heart, gets up and turns this sensitivity to a defect and a failure. One of the reasons for the lack of success in the Lebanon war is the lack of sensitivity, and not too much sensitivity."
--The last victim of the Second Lebanon War was discharged from Nahariya Hospital. Fatima Asadi, 49, from el-Shi’wer near Carmiel, was seriously injured in a Katyusha rocket attack during the last week of the war. Her daughter-in-law and granddaughter were killed in the attack. A second granddaughter was seriously injured.
--Aides to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz rejected reports that the IDF commander is planning to resign if Defense Minister Amir Peretz does not approve his senior command post appointments.
